# Setting up 2-FA

An easy-to-follow tutorial on how to set up 2-FA protection on your account for Synteq's virtualization platform

## Why should you set up 2-FA on your metal account? <a href="#why-should-you-set-up-2-fa-on-your-metal-account" id="why-should-you-set-up-2-fa-on-your-metal-account"></a>

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection to your Virt account. Even if someone obtains your password through data breaches, phishing attempts, or other means, they still cannot access your account without the second authentication code from your phone or an authenticator app.

With full server access, bad actors can steal sensitive data, delete critical files, or encrypt your data, and demand ransom. When you set up 2FA, even if your password is compromised attackers still can't gain the administrative privileges needed to destroy your infrastructure.

## How to set up 2-FA on Virt? <a href="#how-to-set-up-2-fa-on-metal" id="how-to-set-up-2-fa-on-metal"></a>

### 1. Go into your account settings <a href="#how-to-set-up-2-fa-on-metal" id="how-to-set-up-2-fa-on-metal"></a>

Start by going to [https://virt.crunchbits.com](https://virt.crunchbits.com/), and logging in. Then click on the `Account` button.

Then enter the `Two-factor Authentication` tab.&#x20;

### 2. Activate 2-FA on your account

To do this, scan the QR code \[1] presented on that page with your preferred 2-FA application, and then enter the code into the box below \[2].

<figure><img src="https://2514446554-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FYlJjcmT7LgxrDfamjZ7v%2Fuploads%2F6z9UHtDYiTo2MWNpHo3a%2FCleanShot%202025-11-21%20at%2014.18.01%402x.png?alt=media&amp;token=c2224ae2-cd0a-4f39-bba8-c82d4ea01de6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Afterward, click on the `Activate App Based TOTP`

<figure><img src="https://2514446554-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FYlJjcmT7LgxrDfamjZ7v%2Fuploads%2FtGaEFztDCbLiF32Ic6GY%2FCleanShot%202025-11-21%20at%2014.19.49%402x.png?alt=media&amp;token=e0fc84c2-e484-4242-bb47-7a6fb31276e4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 3. Save the backup codes in a safe place

Start by clicking on the `Backup codes` button.

<figure><img src="https://2514446554-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FYlJjcmT7LgxrDfamjZ7v%2Fuploads%2FProeoLHOXjF3adXdLKhd%2FCleanShot%202025-11-21%20at%2014.21.11%402x.png?alt=media&amp;token=faaca518-957d-4e74-8c58-c343bf5d61d3" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Then save the codes that it shows in a safe place. These codes can be used to disable 2-FA in case you've lost access to your 2-FA application.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://legacy.docs.synteq.com/virtualization-platform/account-management/setting-up-2-fa.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
